I am very seriously considering changing my career path to nursing. In fact, our tiny little college here actually has one of the best programs in the country, which I found hard to believe when I first heard that; but that’s what I’ve been told many times.

I am trying to determine if this is the right move for me. It doesn’t seem as daunting as the four-year degree programs, and that part is, of course, appetizing to me. I’m not saying that means it’s a piece of cake – just that I could get down to business a lot sooner once I get that degree. However, I don’t know what kind of pay I would start out with, and that would be a worry for me.

But I’m so tired of working behind a computer feeling so disconnected from people. I really want a job where I am more in contact with people in a helping type of profession. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a lot of hard work, and I’m not looking to get rich. I just want to ensure I can make a decent enough salary to live on.

I’d really like to hear from any nurses in the medical field to see what you think of your career. Did any of you have careers before this that you changed from? I’d love to hear your stories good and bad, so that I could take everything into consideration. Please email me if you’d rather not note me. I would be so grateful for your input.
